Greenlights announces the second annual Nonprofit Excellence Awards. The awards honor the outstanding achievements of Central Texas nonprofit organizations who demonstrate excellence in one or more of the following award categories: Innovation, Service Excellence, Collaboration, and Learning in Action. $1,500 grants will be given to award winners (see the list of finalists here). Awards will be presented at the Nonprofit Excellence Awards Luncheon during the Crossroads Conference on September 24, 2009 from 12:15 to 1:45pm. Eligibility Requirements

  • The Nonprofit Excellence Awards are open to 501(c)(3) public charities in the Central Texas region which is defined as Travis, Caldwell, Hays, Bastrop, and Williamson counties.
  • Only one submission per award category will be accepted.
  • Eligible nonprofit organizations can be nominated for an Innovation Award, Service Excellence Award, Collaboration Award, or Learning in Action Award.
  • The Executive Director, Board Officer, or appropriate representative of award finalists must attend the Crossroads Conference on September 24, 2009 to be considered for an award.
  • To be eligible the project should have culminated or changed significantly between September 2008 and September 24, 2009.
  • Self nominations are welcome.

July 6 - Nomination submissions begin
July 29 - Deadline for nominations
August 19 - Finalists notified by email/phone
September 24 - Awards announced at Crossroads Conference


Award Categories

  • Innovation Award
    The Innovation Award honors a nonprofit organization whose creation and application of new approaches to its work has advanced the organization and serves as a model for other nonprofits. This new practice or approach is being, or has been, incorporated into the fabric of the organization and makes an affirmative impact and improvement on its goals and mission.
  • Service Excellence Award
    The Service Excellence Award honors a nonprofit organization, or one of its programs, whose notable performance and delivery to the community sets a high standard of quality. This organization, or program, values quality in its work and can demonstrate ways in which it continually seeks to measure and improve.
  • Collaboration Award
    The Collaboration Award highlights a successful partnership that a nonprofit has made with another nonprofit, business, foundation, or other entity that has resulted in improved impact and achieved greater outcomes for both organizations because of their unique association.
  • Learning in Action Award
    The Learning in Action Award recognizes an organization that has gained and applied specific knowledge from a workshop, conference, book, etc. that resulted in a direct and significant enhancement to the operation or core activities of a nonprofit organization. This organization has gone beyond research and theory to real application of a best practice in the nonprofit sector for marked success.
