The Board Summit is an energizing and fast-paced networking event designed to introduce more than 250 individuals to approximately 40 local nonprofits. Individuals interested in serving on a nonprofit board of directors will learn the essentials of board service and connect with the organizations that are actively recruiting board members. Participating nonprofits have the unique opportunity of networking and engaging with a multitude of business professionals looking to serve their community in a highly impactful way - through board service.
Key Dates:
- Application deadline: April 9, 2010 by 5 pm
- Nonprofit Gallary selections announced: Week of April 19, 2010
- Board Summit: June 10, 2010 at the The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum (event is from 6–8:30 pm.; booth set-up time is from 4:15–5:30 pm.)
Benefits of Participation
Participating in the Board Summit is an opportunity to showcase your organization to potential board members and to meet people who want to contribute their time, talent and treasure to your organization. Benefits to nonprofits that are chosen to participate include:
- A booth in the Nonprofit Gallery at the Board Summit, providing the opportunity to meet more than 250 professionals from the business community, including many Leadership Austin Alumni and several members of the Austin Young Chamber of Commerce, all of whom are interested in board service;
- A profile about your organization and board service opportunities, which is distributed to Board Summit attendees;
- A listing on the Greenlights' Board Summit web page and link to your web site as one of the nonprofits being showcased;
- The opportunity to participate in a free, one-hour Board Summit Strategy Sessions in the week preceding the event (date and location TBD). Led by Greenlights’ staff, the Strategy Session is a great way to explore the many ways to leverage the connections and new relationships forged at the Board Summit.
Nonprofit Gallery Participant Guidelines
Organizations will be selected based on their readiness to provide board candidates with a quality board recruitment and service experience. An effort is made to select a diverse group of organizations, representing many focus areas and organization sizes.
All applicants for the 2010 Board Summit must:
- Be an official 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization;
- Be a current member of Greenlights for NonProfit Success;
- Serve the Central Texas area;
- Commit to having their Executive Director and a key board member (ideally a member of the Executive Committee) attend as their representatives in the Nonprofit Gallery on June 10, 2010;
- Participate in post event surveys with an update on the progress of any meetings or board placement with potential board candidates connected through the Board Summit;
- Pledge to provide a quality board nominating/recruiting experience to all potential board candidates, including contacting board candidates in a professional and timely manner as needed for board consideration; and
- Submit a participation fee to Greenlights for NonProfit Success within two weeks of notification of selection. The participation fee covers registration for your organization's two representatives.
Participation Fees:
- $50 organizations with annual operating budgets of up to $250,000;
- $100 organizations with annual operating budgets of $250,000 to $1 million;
- $150 organizations with budgets of $1 million and above.

Applications and supporting documentation must be received by 5 pm on April 9, 2010. Applications received after 5 p.m. will not be considered.
